Canterbury and My Tales

On Saturday first day in July 2006 a visit was made
By a group from Coventry, Saint Georges Church
For a young man, Philip, whose foundations were laid
Being strongly cemented in his faith, in God and His church

“Granny Smith” in her wisdom, had booked us a coach
A list was drawn up, with monies soon to be paid
Time flying by, this date was nearing and making its approach
To be up at the break of dawn, with bags packed and beds made

Six of the clock, one deadline for leaving this our city
All boarded and settled down into comfortable seats
Please God, let the roads be empty, no jams or such be a pity
One comfort stop, just time for refreshment repletes

One careful driver, though signs barring our way
Deposited, free to enter this wonderful Cathedral in Canterbury
Majestic and regal, almost reaching the sky, built for to stay
Seats filling so quickly, here to support in Divine Ordination

Overwhelmed and in awe, as I soaked up its atmosphere, in Gods Spirit
Archbishop Rowan Williams, regal, enrobed and holding his staff
Surrounded in church majesty, for all the new Deacons
After making and taking their Oaths, following in Gods Spirit

Music from Mozart, Bach too, playing as a powerful background
Into quiet prayer for each Ordinand to compose and to calm
All in Honour and Praise to you Lord, Three in One, do resound
From all in glorious hymn singing, for Your Love, saving us from harm

A greeting, a Blessing, The Presentation, for each one for to behold
Wondrous, being a part, in supporting Philip, in His glory
A young man, his future, all in Gods Hand, for him to hold
In sharing in his parish with people and The Word, told in many a story

Pictures taken and out into Gods glorious sunshine and heat
Into the world of learning, this university for all clever and bright
Fed and fortified, pictures in history, never able to repeat
Meeting Philip’s family and friends, such a treat

This group from Saint Georges, we all wish you well
Into your chaplaincy and parish, to live, work and share
In Gods Spirit, with loving warmth, I know you will tell
All the people, coming into your life, of Gods Love and His Loving Care

Boarding once more, each one accounted for
No one missing this one and only bus
Phyllis has checked, so lets be off, as our driver shuts the door
We are all hot, bothered and tired; we’ll not make a fuss

Heads nodding and bodies dropping asleep
Through gentle movement in motion, relaxes and eases
In miles travelled, with thoughts in reflection, of a day oh so deep
Lord thank you, for all in this day, so much pleases

Though sadly this England once more lost the World Cup in Footie!!!
